Failure To Thrive

I recently saw an outstanding presentation by Matthew Hartsfield in Tampa, Florida (www.vandyke.org) where he presented the concept of FTT.  This is a documented mental health problem which stands for Failure To Thrive.  FTT is identified when a person has lost a sense of hope and meaning to life.  A person is basically languishing.  A person with FTT is suffering from a weariness of the soul and an inability to delight in life.  This reminds me of Emerson’s comments about most people living lives of “quiet desperation'”.

Throughout my life I have seen people at various levels of this languishing.  I believe their lives lack passion and energy because they have not fulfilled one of mans basic requirements.  That is the need for meaning in all activities.  I have seen many people deal with difficulties and challenges but experiencing little stress because they knew the reason or purpose for the task.  There was purpose!  With purpose comes commitment, boldness, focus and strength.

I recently found something in the Bible in John Chapter 1 where John the Baptist clearly stated his identity and purpose.  This man had no FTT.  He knew who he was and his purpose.  Can you find this in John 1?

Are you languishing?  Do you live with an inability to delight in your life?  Would you like to change that in 2010?

I seeks to help others discover their purpose and find a message of hope through Identity and Destiny. God is allowing me to use all of my story – even the trials and pain. The kind of hope that can only come from finding a way to walk victoriously through the hard places in life. And what I have learned is this…if you will allow Him…God wants to use YOU to help others – not in spite of your past – but because of it!!!
