I just finished The Secret Place by Eric James Sain and loved it.
With all the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season, it has been a place of peace and quiet. A great way to start my mornings over the the past few weeks. It’s a simple and straightforward book that points you in the direction of the Secret Place, a refuge for you and God alone.
If you are a Christian, this probably sounds pretty interesting…but if you’re not…you might want to give it a shot anyway…it is written by a guy who discovered these things while serving a prison sentence and trying to make sense of his life.
I especially love chapter 7, titled “Discovering Your Identity.”
In it he says, ” Not many Christians have any idea what their calling is and most are not searching very hard to find out. They have no identity. It seems like many are just passing their time here on earth with little purpose or direction. It’s as if we are just waiting to die. This should not be!”
He goes on to say, ” God has already decided what He wants to produce with our lives, and He gifted us to fulfill that purpose. He knows why we are here, even if we do not. As Christians, our sole focus should be to seek God’s plan for our lives.”
I would go on to say that we not only should do it…I think we are responsible for doing it! I think we are all accountable to God for what he so generously gives us. I don’t believe that finding – and then living - our God-given purpose is optional.
Why would God create the one and only YOU with a plan for your life…with all the gifts, skills and life experience you need – and then be happy to see you squander or ignore it???
My husband, Tom, likes to tease me – but sometimes there is great truth in his teasing. He will often say to me (and others)…God’s gonna ask you 3 question when you get to heaven…
(1) Who did you say my son Jesus was?
(2) What did you do with what I gave you?
(3) How did you like my book?
Might be good to think about those questions now.
So, how would you answer “the big 3″???
